The Crisis
Local news is in crisis. Over 3,000 local newspapers have been lost over the past 20 years, leaving more than 1,800 communities without access to trusted information. And the problem is growing each year.

The Solution
Local public media organizations are already part of the solution, with 300 local newsrooms employing more than 4,000 journalists across the country, but they need more support to fill the growing news void and keep communities strong. This is a challenge that will become significantly more urgent if federal funding for public media is reduced or eliminated.
Local News Catalyst helps strengthen public and community media organizations at the local level, amplifying their impact and advocating for their needs with funders and key stakeholders to drive meaningful change.
